In addition to monoskis there are other options for adaptive shredders: four-track skiing for people who ambulate; bi-skiing for beginners and higher level injuries; and the new tetra-ski designed for skiers with high-level injuries. The popular Dynaccess Hydra model monoski, priced at $9200, is outfitted with suspension kinematics designed to move the body of the monoskier in the same way able-bodied skiers do in a turn. It applies pressure near the ski tip during turn initiation then moves the skier backwards on the ski to center the pressure under the foot at the apex of the turn, and finally slightly towards the back to straighten out the ski and accelerates out of the turn.
“Skiing is something I love doing, but it became challenging due to equipment limitations. Having my mono-ski has given me independence and flexibility. With my grant, I've been able to reconnect with my father and go skiing again.”
